Executive team

Prof Ged Byrne MBE
Founder
Ged Byrne, MBE is a surgical oncologist and academic leader. He joined Health Education England (HEE) in 2013 as Director of Education and Quality for the North of England, where he established and developed HEE’s Directorate of Global Partnerships. He now serves as Director of Global Health for NHS England.
Ged co-developed and led the ‘Better Health Programme’ of the UK Prosperity Fund, including the establishment of the NHS Consortium for Global Health. He also founded the Uganda, Myanmar, and Kenya UK Health Alliances. With experience in 30 countries, he has worked at both governmental and sub-governmental levels to develop government-to-government (G2G) and institution-to-institution health partnerships.
He is the longest-serving trustee of the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET).
In recognition of his contributions to global health, Ged was awarded an MBE in 2019. He holds professorial chairs at the Universities of Manchester, Salford, Bolton, and Keele.

Mr Iain Cameron
Leader and System Expert
Mr Iain Cameron is a Consultant Hepatobiliary Surgeon and the President of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery (AUGIS).

Cameron was also a national cancer peer reviewer and actively participated on appointments committees for new cancer surgeons.

He has authored 74 peer-reviewed publications and is active in research, leading the UK bile duct injury registry and the UK Safe Cholecystectomy Group to enhance patient safety.

Rachael Briggs
Role
Rachael Briggs is the Associate Director of Operations at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust since 2022. ​​​During her time in Leicester, she has successfully bid for capital and revenue monies across national initiatives transforming endoscopy services and investmenting in new facilities for urgent and emergency care capacity. Rachael has also lead the opening of one of the largest Surgical Hubs in the region.

Prior to joining UHL, Rachael served as the Assistant Director for the national e-Referral Service at NHS England and was the Divisional General Manager for Medicine at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lucie Byrne-Davis
Behavioural Change
Lucie is a Health Psychologist at the University of Manchester Medical School, UK. She works directly with educators to enhance their workforce training modules and courses - using behavioural science to make practice change more likely.

Lucie is also Associate Dean for Internationalisation (Teaching and Learning) for the Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health, University of Manchester. She develops and manages global partnerships to increase the quality and quantity of health workers.
Lucie co-founded and is the Director of The Change Exchange: a hub for behavioural science applied to health education in global health.
She is a BPS chartered psychologist and HCPC registered Health Psychologist.
